Obituary for Frances A. Butler

Frances Butler (née Kozak) (lovingly known to all as Baba) was born on March 25, 1929 and entered into eternal rest on Friday March 1, 2019. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Toal (1956) and her husband, Robert E. Butler (2014). She is survived by children Donald Toal (Wendy); Timothy Toal (Yoko); Andrea Burke (Howard); Christine Costa (John) and Robert Butler Jr. (Karyn); grandchildren Lindsay Smith (Michael); Tina Toal; Howard Burke Jr. (Jamie); Donald Toal Jr. (Lisa); Timothy Toal, Jr. (Jillian); Elizabeth Toal; Robert Butler III; Bryan Butler (Dayna); John Costa; Zachary Butler; and Alexander Costa and by great grandchildren Audrina Brooklynn Smith; Nathan Robert Smith; Hudson Charles Smith; Nolan Howard Burke and Cayden Ryland Burke.

A Philadelphia native, she raised her family in Delaware County, PA before moving to Stuart, Florida in 1993. She adored all cooking shows, Monk, The Hallmark Mystery Channel, Perry Como and Andrea's Raw Apple Cake. Baba loved to stand out in a crowd, so much so that she was the only woman at her 50th high school reunion from Hallahan High School in gold, while everyone else wore black. Together with her husband, Poppy, they enjoyed many island cruises over the years and made quite the social lives for them in Florida.

Without fail, she and Poppy would make the trek up north (despite Poppy's passionate dislike of the cold and snow) to be with family for Thanksgiving and Christmas and somehow managed to have a part time PA residence without actually having a home in PA. Thanksgiving was by far Baba's favorite holiday. She loved the one time of year that she had all 5 of her children and their families together around the table. She enjoyed celebrating Christmas Eve Mass at St. Kevin in the gym listening to the children's choir sing. The tradition became even more special when her great granddaughter joined the choir. In fact it was her great grandchildren that made their permanent move back north palatable for both Baba and Poppy.

Baba loved the color yellow, reading a good book (some say she earned herself a college degree reading hand me down books) and smelling fresh tulips. She hated shopping but loved exploring the grocery store and was always up for trying a new "one pot meal" which undoubtedly used atleast 5 pots to cook.

In the last year, Baba was fortunate enough to live with her daughter Christine and to have the love and comfort of her family over the last few weeks of her life. While she'll be greatly missed, we are grateful that she was able to live such a full and cherished life and hope that one day we too can be just like our Baba.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, March 9, after 9:30 AM at St. Kevin Church, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064 followed by her funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.

Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
